(Not to do with objects with pearls, coral, amber and emeralds) The purchase of an item of jewellery is a matter of style as well as taste.
The pleasure of wearing it increases over time, because its beauty is unchanging and
is enhanced day after day, by the owner’s inimitable personal style. To preserve the beauty and brightness of your jewellery,
I can suggest some very useful rules:
each piece should be kept separately from the others
(just wrap each of them in something like a tissue). For cleaning at home: use a small container and put the item in it,
pour on a small quantity of alcohol, and with a brush (a tooth-brush is good)
give a thorough scrub to both the inside and outside surfaces of the piece.
Then dry it with some cotton-wool. Next, take a saucepan with enough water
in to cover the item, add a small quantity of washing-up liquid and bring it to the boil.
Let it cool, and rinse the piece thoroughly under running water. By taking this preventative action from time to time, we can preserve the brightness
of our jewellery. However, it is advisable to make periodic visits to a goldsmith to have your jewellery professionally
cleaned so as to reveal their original splendour. |
